Panthers Accumulate Nine Top Ten Finishes at Clemson Opener

ATLANTA-- Georgia State women's track and field opened its season with nine top 10 finishes at the Clemson Opener on Friday afternoon. 

Valissa Brown and Kayli Williams stated the season with outstanding performances, taking home a second and third place finish in the 60-meter hurdles event. Brown was the runner-up in the event with an 8.40 time, while Williams followed up with a third place finish, running an 8.41 time. 

Ana Cubillo finished in third overall in the 1000-meter race with a 3:05.74 time. Mencia Maruri followed in sixth overall with a 3:12. 29 time. 

Brown also finished fourth overall in the long jump event, posting a distance of 5.72-meters. 

Maleah Heard finished fourth overall in the 60-meter dash, posting a career-best 7.48 time. She finished with a 7.59 time in the prelims to qualify for finals. 

Ronasche Fluker finished sixth overall in the triple jump with an 11.73-meter distance. Kennedy Jacquet followed with an 11.13-meter jump in the event. 

Aniyah Mosley finished the 400-meter race in eighth place with a 1:00.38 time. The sophomore also participated in the weighted event, finishing ninth overall with a career-best 14.18-meter distance. 

Georgia State had four athletes who participated in the 300-meter dash, and all of them set career-bests in the event. Marissa Palmer led the Panthers in the event with a career-best 40.33 time. Freshman Laila Eiland followed with a 40.40 time to set a career-best in the event. Shadae Worrell was third on the Panthers' leaderboard in the event with a career-best 40.72 time, followed by Brittney Green with a career-best 40.96 time. 

Marie Tchocksi finished 28th overall in the 200-meter run with a 27.10 time, followed by Gabrielle Key with a 28.26 time. Tchocksi and key also participated in the long jump event. Key finished 15th overall with a 5.29-meter jump, and Tchocksi followed with a 5.15-meter jump to finish 16th overall. 

Freshmen Ruqayyah Byrd and Kyla Ramey represented the Panthers in the 600-meter race. Ramey finished with a 1:47.46 time, directly followed by Byrd with a 1:48.42 time. 


Notes: 
>  Kennedy Jacquet posted a career-best 9.63 time in the 60-meter hurdles. 
> Kayli Willimas Finished second overall in the 60-meter hurdles prelims with a 8.41 time to qualify for finals. 
> Valissa Brown finished third overall in the 60-meter hurdles prelims with a 8.49 time to qualify for finals.
> Georgia State's 4x400-meter relay team finished 12th overall in the event with a 4:02. 63 time. 

The Panthers take a break from action until the new year, when they head back to Clemson for the Clemson Invite on Saturday, Jan. 11.
