Panthers Take Down Florida A&M

TALLAHASSEE, FL. -The Panthers (1-5) defeated Florida A&M (1-5) in a two-game road series in Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday. 

Georgia State faced Florida A&M and Florida State, finishing the day with a 1-1 record. 

Vs. Florida A&M

The Panthers took an early lead by taking the doubles point, entering singles with a 1-0 advantage. Maria Paredes and Francesca Miglio defeated their opponents at the second doubles flight, 6-1. Alba Retortillo paired with Andreea Stanescu at the top doubles flight, clinching the doubles point for the Panthers with a 6-2 win. 

Singles play was successful for the Panthers, as they took five of six matches across the board. Graduate student Stanescu quickly added another point for the Panthers with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the fourth singles flight. 

Retortillo defeated her opponent at the third singles flight with a 6-2, 6-3 score, giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Miglio dropped her match at the second singles flight, but Freshman Sara Radojevic clinched the match for the Panthers immediately after with a 6-4, 7-5 decision. 

The Panthers then added two points on the board as sophomore Paredes and freshman Sveva Bernardi defeated their opponents. 

Vs. Florida State 

The Panthers dropped the doubles point in their match against Florida State, entering singles play with a 1-0 disadvantage. Georgia State fought across the board in singles play, but ultimately fell 4-0 to Florida State. 

The Panthers will be in Atlanta on Feb 17 for their home opener against Jacksonville at 1 p.m.
