CONWAY, SC. - Georgia State (4-8) traveled to Coastal Carolina (5-4) for its first conference match-up on Sunday morning. Despite singles victories from Spaniards Alba Retortillo Soiras and
Maria Paredes, the Panthers dropped a 5-2 decision against the Chanticleers.
Georgia State dropped the doubles point early in the match, entering singles with a 1-0 disadvantage. The Panthers then went down 4-0 with singles losses on courts No. 3, 5, and 6, clinching the match for the Chanticleers.
Despite being down 4-0, the Panthers fought back to put up two points on the board as sophomore Paredes saw a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court No. 1 and Retortillo defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-4 on court No. 2. The final score of the match ended up being 5-2 for Coastal Carolina.
Georgia State will play two conference matches next week on March 16 at Appalachian State and March 17 at Marshall.
