ATLANTA– No. 16 Georgia State beach volleyball (5-3) will open home competition this week as head coach Beth Van Fleet and the Sandy Panthers prepare to host the annual GSU Day of Duals on Wednesday, March 6. GSU enters its third week of competition having posted a trio of victories at the Seminole Beach Bash last weekend.
Day of Duals will see GSU welcome Austin Peay, Mercer, and No. 15 Florida Atlantic to the GSU Beach Complex in downtown Atlanta. The Sandy Panthers will open the tournament with a 9 a.m. meeting against Austin Peay. The Sandys will return to the courts for a 5 p.m. battle against FAU. This will mark the second outing against the Owls this season. The Sandy Panthers fell to FAU in the season opener. Van Fleet's squad will close the single-day event with a match against in-state and Sun Belt Conference rival, Mercer, at 7 p.m. The Sandys currently sit at 1-0 in conference play after sweeping ULM over the weekend.
The Sandy Panthers will look to build on their home success, as the program boasts a 49-9 record when defending their home sand. Also, GSU will aim to remain undefeated when facing Austin Peay and Mercer. The Sandy Panthers first faced the Governors in 2017, compiling a 5-0 record in all-time meetings. Meanwhile, GSU has beaten Mercer in 15 consecutive outings dating back to 2013. Despite the loss earlier in the season, GSU holds a 13-9 advantage in all-time meetings against the Owls.
More information on the event can be found at the Tournament Central page on the web. All of Georgia State's match will stream on ESPN+.
