Panthers Fall 38-21 to Georgia Southern

ATLANTA-- Christian Veilleux threw for 356 yards and Ted Hurst added 112 receiving yards, but Georgia State fell to Georgia Southern 38-21 at home Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles improved to 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in Sun Belt Conference play, while the Panthers fell to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference matchups.

Veilleux went 23-for-45 on the way to the 356-yard, two-touchdown outing with three interceptions.

Freddie Brock paced the Panthers rushing attack by accumulating 36 yards and one touchdown over the course of the game. Sy'veon Wilkerson also added five yards on the ground, averaging 5 yards per carry.

Hurst's 112-yard, one-touchdown performance led the Georgia State receiving corps. Dorian Fleming also hauled in two passes for 58 yards and one touchdown and Dj Riles chipped in with three grabs for 51 yards as well.

Henry Bryant showed out for the Georgia State defense, totaling 1.0 TFL, one sack, one forced fumble, and one recovered fumble. Rykem Laney added one recovered fumble and Kevin Swint had four tackles, 2.0 TFL, two sacks, and one forced fumble in the loss.

How It Happened

Georgia Southern jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but Georgia State responded to tie the game at 7-7 with 5:34 left in the first quarter.Georgia Southern then scored to take a 24-7 lead before the Panthers put a touchdown on the board to narrow the gap and make it a 24-14 game.

Georgia State scored again with 9:22 remaining in the third quarter to narrow Ga. Southern's lead to 24-21. Georgia State went scoreless the rest of the game while Georgia Southern added 14 points to finish off the scoring.
