SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Georgia State Panthers battled to a 2-2 road draw against the USC Upstate Spartans in the season opener Thursday evening at County University Soccer Stadium.
How it Happened
The night got off to a quick start as the Spartans capitalized in the third minute to grab an early 1-0 lead, putting Georgia State immediately on the back foot. The Panthers wasted little time in responding as Tom Williams delivered the equalizer in the 14th minute, converting a pass from Gavin Williams for his first goal of the season.
Building on the swing, the Panthers pressed forward and broke the deadlock just before halftime. In the 43rd minute, Matthew Taylor found the back of the net for his first goal of the year, giving the Panthers its first lead of the match. However, Upstate answered within the 45th minute to start off the second half, leveling the score at 2-2.
Neither side was able to break the deadlock in the second half.
