Panthers' First Clean Sheet Evens Season Record

ATLANTA - Georgia State Men's Soccer brought their season record to an even 2-2-2 on Monday night, courtesy of Loan Marin's first shutout of the season and late heroics from leading scorer Matthew Taylor. The late score from Taylor lifted the Panthers to a 1-0 victory over visiting UAB.

How it Happened

Both the Panthers and Blazers waged a pair of shots on the net in the first half, but the keepers pitched dueling shutouts to keep the sides scoreless through 45 minutes.

As the clock ticked down inside of 10 minutes in the second half, the two netminders had still yet to sacrifice the first goal of the game. Needing a score to put themselves in position for their second win of the season, the Panthers turned to one of their three leading scorers in Taylor. Knocking in an immaculate cross from hot-handed Braiden Hall, Taylor's third goal of the campaign gave him sole possession of the team lead, and gave the Panthers a 1-0 advantage.

Marin held on in goal for his first clean sheet of the season, sending his squad into conference play with their second victory of the year.

Game Notes
  • Taylor's late goal marked the second game in a row that the Panthers tied or took the lead in the final 10 minutes
  • UAB dominated shots 11-6, but put just two on goal, compared to four for the Panthers
  • Monday was Marin's fifth straight game allowing one goal or fewer, and his first time shutting out an opponent
  • The Panthers received no cards, while the Blazers received two
