Panthers Come up Short in Loss to Memphis

ATLANTA -- Georgia State fell 38-16 to Memphis at home Saturday night.
 
"I thought we abandoned the run," Coach McGee said. "We couldn't really get any movement in the second half running the football, and that always makes it tough."

Tj Finley led Georgia State's passing attack with 201 yards through the air.

Cameran Brown paced the Panthers rushing attack by accumulating 25 yards and one touchdown over the course of the game, averaging 8.3 yards per carry. Rashad Amos also added 15 yards on the ground, as well as 31 receiving yards.

The most prolific target for Georgia State quarterbacks was Ted Hurst, who caught seven passes for 97 yards. Javon Robinson got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in five balls for 78 yards and one touchdown. The Panthers also got 52 yards receiving from Grant Hollier in the contest.

Marlin Dean led the Georgia State defensive effort, recording three tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack. Jordon Simmons added and Jaylen Jones had three tackles in the loss.

The Georgia State offense did a good job extending drives, converting on 40 percent of third-down attempts.

Defensively, Georgia State held up fairly well against the Memphis passing attack, holding the Tigers to 196 yards through the air.

McGee remains optimist despite a slow start to the season.
 
"All our goals are ahead of us," Coach McGee said. "It'll start next week. wWe'll prepare and have another home game and expect a better result."
 


How It Happened

GSU found itself down early 7-2, but responded to take a 9-7 lead with :17 left in the first quarter.Memphis responded and went ahead 14-9 before the Panthers scored again on a 44-yard touchdown reception from to Robinson to jump back in front 16-14. Georgia State didn't score again in the game and Memphis added 24 more points to finish off the scoring.
