ATLANTA — In a match that ended with concurrent finishes on singles courts one and six, Georgia State Men's Tennis was able to close out a back-and-forth affair with visiting Alabama A&M. The Panthers won their third straight doubles point to open the match, and brought home the victory thanks to singles wins on lines two, three, and six.
The Panthers strength has been in their doubles play as of late, and Saturday was no exception. Playing from line three,
Gustav Andersson and
Sota Minami cruised to their fourth straight doubles win, blanking their counterparts 6-0. A loss on court two knotted up the score, but reigning Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Gabriele Datei and
Arthur Attrill did what they do best, outlasting their opponents on the first line, 6-3, to secure the opening point.
Attrill continued his winning ways in singles play, winning in straight sets with scores of 7-5 and 6-1 for the Panthers' second point.
Cem Atlamis responded to the Bulldogs taking line five with a straight set victory of his own on line two, putting Georgia State on the verge of victory. After winning his opening set 6-3, Andersson had dropped the next, 6-4, forcing a decisive third set. With all eyes on court six, Andersson delivered, toppling his counterpart by a score of 6-2 to secure the Panthers first match victory over a Division I opponent.
