Women's Tennis Opens Conference Play with Emphatic Win

ATLANTA — Georgia State Women's Tennis closed out the weekend and opened up conference play with a dominant 4-0 victory over rival Georgia Southern at home. The Panthers won singles points on courts one, two, and three and captured two out of three doubles wins to secure their four points.

After suffering a loss on the first line on Saturday, the doubles pairing on Maria Paredes and Zeynep Erbakan bounced back in a big way, dispatching their opponents from Southern to secure the opening point of the match. The Panthers' youngest pairing, Defne Erbakan and Lamiss Haouas, improved to 2-0 on the weekend, knocking off their counterparts by a final score of 6-2.

In singles play, Georgia State's top three dominated their respective courts. After closing out Saturday's match with a 6-0 second set victory on line two, Sara Radojevic stayed hot, winning in straight sets once again to capture the second point of the day. On court three, Zeynep Erbakan took care of business, winning in straight sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-3. Paredes shut the door on the Eagles, claiming 7-5 and 6-4 wins on line one to give the Panthers their fourth and final point.

The 4-0 victory marked Georgia State's first shutout victory over Georgia Southern since 2017 and their first such win at home since 2009. The Panthers now hold an 11-5 advantage over the Eagles all-time, and have lost twice in a row in the series just once.
