Nick Brochu returns for his fifth season as head coach of Georgia State’s men’s tennis team. He has been involved with the program as a player, assistant coach and head coach for the past nine seasons.

As the head coach, Brochu’s teams have won ten or more matches in two of the past three seasons and advanced to the semifinals or finals of the Conference Championships each year.

Brochu served the Panthers as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2002 spring season. Winning the Atlantic Sun Tournament in 2002 marked the third trip to the NCAA Tournament with Georgia State for Brochu. His two previous trips to the NCAAs was as a player in 1999 and 2000 after the team claimed the A-Sun Conference Championship and the automatic bid.

Brochu transfered to State from the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP). During his three years at State, Brochu won the Conference tournament every year from 1998 to 2000. In 2000, he helped the team reach its highest ranking in school history: 41st in the nation. During his playing career at Georgia State, Brochu earned All-Conference recognition in 1999 and 2000 and was ranked as high as No. 31 nationally in the NCAA rankings along with doubles partner Karl Lindberg.

Under coach Brochu, Matias Ormaza was named 2002 Conference Player of the Year, two players received the title of Conference Freshman-of-the-Year in 2002 and 2005, and nine players have been elected First Team All-Conference. Nine players received a national ranking while playing at State under coach Brochu. Georgia State won the Atlantic Sun Conference championship four of the past eight years.

After graduating in 2000 with a bachelor’s in finance, Brochu played professionally on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour for two years. As a professional, Brochu won Future Events, one satellite series event and had many great results in Challengers. Brochu also played in a Tennis Master Series and was ranked in the ATP doubles top 500.

Along with his coaching responsibilities, Brochu finished his master’s degree in sports administration-marketing in 2004. Brochu, hails from Quebec, Canada.
