Georgia State University Athletics

Ely Abbott joined the Georgia State Athletics Department as the Senior Associate Athletic Director in October 2022 after spending the past 14 years at the College of Law through various roles-Assistant Director, Director, and Assistant Dean.  
 
As the Assistant Dean of Development, Abbott managed all alumni affairs and development efforts for the college including major gifts, the annual campaign, management of the college’s two boards (Board of Visitors and Law Alumni Council) and volunteers, alumni and community engagement events and stewardship activities. He successful led the College of Law through Georgia State University’s Comprehensive Campaign raising $26.8 million of a $25 million goal – includes funding for the construction of a new law building, the creation of the Center for Access to Justice and the Investor Advocacy Clinic, and the expansion of endowed scholarships, including a 200% increase of endowed student scholarships. 
 
Prior to working at Georgia State University, Abbott worked in the development office at Georgetown University Law Center and for two U.S. Senators. In 2009, Abbott briefly left Georgia State Law to become the Finance Director for then-Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker’s Gubernatorial Campaign.
 
A native of Montana, Abbott received his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Montana in 2000.
