Former Georgia Tech softball standout Kristen Adkins joined the Georgia State softball program as a volunteer assistant coach prior to the 2012 season.

Adkins assists the softball team in all aspects of the program, including pitching, hitting, fielding and conditioning.

The McKinney, Texas, native, played three years for the Yellow Jackets after transferring from the University of Florida following her freshman season.

A two-time All-ACC pitcher, Adkins finished her career with a 51-15 record, a 1.77 ERA and 297 strikeouts. In 70 starts, she threw a total of 36 complete games, including 13 shutouts. A versatile athlete, Adkins occasionally started at third base and tallied 15 home runs and 57 RBI during her career at the plate.

Adkins helped lead Tech to three consecutive NCAA regional appearances, as well as back-to-back ACC titles in 2009 and 2010. In the spring of 2011, she graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in science, technology and culture.

During her rookie campaign with the Gators, Adkins pitched 7.2 scoreless innings in five relief appearances. She also batted .313 with five runs scored, two doubles, a home run and three RBI in 16 at-bats.

While at McKinney High School, she earned All-American honors and was twice named to the All-State first team. Adkins still holds school records for ERA, strikeouts and wins.
