Softball Defeats Western Carolina 21-0, 8-0

Panthersville, Ga. - The Georgia State softball team continued its winning streak as they defeated Western Carolina 21-0 and 8-0 in Sunday's doubleheader, increasing its record to 8-0. Freshman hurler Alicia Mills pitched a no-hitter in the first game, while hitting two home runs on the day, including a grand slam, and totaling seven RBIs.

In its last three games, the Panther pitching staff has thrown 16 consecutive shutout innings. In eight games this season, State's pitchers have allowed only 10 runs across the board while the Panther offense stays hot, scoring an impressive 108 runs in just 47 innings.

In the first game, freshman Lauren Jones went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the third inning. Junior Holly Willis and sophomore Danielle Roddy both batted 3-for-4, combining for a total nine RBIs.

Junior Natasha Berry finished the day batting 5-for-5 with a two-run home run in the first game, scoring five runs and racking up five RBIs.

In the circle for the second game, junior Madi Gore pitched her second shutout of the season, holding the Catamounts to just three hits while striking out eight.

State returns to action Saturday at 12:15 p.m., hosting their second tournament of the season, the Panther Invitational at Bob Heck Field in Panthersville, Ga. The field includes Vermont, Dayton and Tennessee State.
