Softball Wins Both on Opening Day

Panthersville ? The Georgia State softball team improved its record to 13-1 as they defeated Evansville, 3-2, and Western Carolina, 16-0, in the first day of the GSU Spring Showdown at Bob Heck Field in Panthersville, as freshman catcher Catherine Lee belted three home runs, including a grand slam, giving her a team-high five on the season.

In the circle, right hand hurler Alicia Mills (5-0) recorded the win against the Aces, while Madi Gore (4-1) shut out the Catamounts in five innings. Mills completed the first game allowing only four hits, one earned run, while fanning nine batters. Gore allowed just two hits and struck out seven.

Lee went 3-for-7 on the day, with three home runs and eight RBIs. Junior outfielder Natasha Berry completed the first day of the tournament batting 5-for-8, scoring three and driving in one.

The Panthers continue the tournament tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. when they face the Owls from Kennesaw State (12-4) in the second game of the GSU Spring Showdown at Bob Heck Field in Panthersville.
