ATLANTA?The Georgia State softball team dropped a doubleheader to Georgia Tech, 9-1 (5) and 4-1, Wednesday at Tech's Glenn Field.

Rachel Cunningham and Natasha Berry hit home runs to lead the Panthers, who fell to 31-16 on the season. Georgia Tech hit six homers on the day, including two by Brittany Barnes, to improve to 27-28.

In game one, Georgia Tech jumped out quickly with four runs in the first inning on back-to-back homers by Brittany Barnes and Amanda Crow. Georgia State got on the board in the second inning on Cunningham's solo blast, her third home run of the season. Tech added another solo homer by Savannah Brown in the third before ending the game in the bottom of the fifth on Whitney Haller's three-run homer, the 47th of her career.

Whitney Humphreys (16-14) tossed a two-hit complete game to earn the victory for Tech, while State starter Ashley Cowan (7-5) took the loss.

State took an early 1-0 lead in game two on a solo home run by Natasha Berry, her fourth of the season, in the top of the first. Tech answered with three runs in the second, highlighted by Jessica Weaver's two-run homer, to move ahead, 3-1. Barnes added her second round-tripper of the day in the fourth inning to extend Tech's lead to 4-1.

Tiffany Johnson (4-4) earned the complete game victory for Tech, while starter Madi Gore (11-7) went the distance but took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits.

Georgia State travels to UNC Wilmington this weekend for a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series, including a doubleheader Saturday at 12 noon and a single game Sunday, also at 12 noon. State stands in second place in the CAA standings with a 9-5 record in conference play.
