Women's Soccer Loses to #25 Old Dominion

The Georgia State women's soccer team fell to 25th ranked Old Dominion on Friday night, 5-0.

Old Dominion entered the game ranked 25th nationally by Soccer America Magazine, seventh in the Soccer Buzz Mid-Atlantic region, and 10th regionally by NCSAA/Adidas.

The loss drops the Panthers to 7-3 on the season, 0-1 in CAA conference play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Heidi Blankenship returned to the lineup for the Panthers after missing two games due to a pulled muscle.

Georgia State held strong early thanks to a gutsy save by Blankenship, but gave up the first goal in the 25th minute to Victoria Johnson.

Old Dominion added to their lead with goals by Katie Watson and Jenni Purdum in the 31st and 33rd minute, respectively, to take a 3-0 lead to the half.

In the second half, Old Dominion continued to repel the Panther attack, using defensive pressure to create offensive opportunities.

Katie Watson poured in her second goal of the contest in the 77th minute. Kelsey Williams added another in the 79th.

Georgia State will try to rebound from the loss on Sunday as they play host to CAA rival William & Mary.

The Panthers will host Youth Team Day in support of local youth soccer teams in and around the Atlanta area.

The game begins at 1 p.m. at Panthersville, and can be followed online with live stats available at www.GeorgiaStateSports.com.
