Panthers Lose Tough One to #58 Mississippi State, 4-1

Starkville, Mississippi. -- The #57 Georgia State women's tennis team (0-5) dropped a tough match to SEC opponent #58 Mississippi State (2-1), 4-1, on Friday afternoon. Sophomore Diana Nakic, ranked 42nd nationally, won in straight sets to improve her singles record to 5-0 on the season.

Georgia State played the match indoors at the two-court McCarthy Gymnasium on the campus of Mississippi State. The Panthers lost the doubles point after Diana Nakic/Linda Hricistova were defeated, 8-3, by Olesya Tsigvintseva/ Natalia Mayuk. The Bulldogs took the early 2-0 advantage after winning the doubles point and No 6. singles match by default.

The Panthers responded by taking the No. 1 singles match when Nakic defeated Olesya Tsigvintseva, 6-2, 6-2. Next week ITA will announce a new singles and doubles rankings, which should see Nakic move up in them with her 5-0 record.

In the clinching match freshman Kir Kemp was defeated in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, by Natalia Mayuk.

Georgia State returns to action tomorrow to take on #38 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. at 12 p.m.
