ATLANTA, Ga. -- On the strength of four home runs, which scored all of its runs, No. 8 Georgia Tech defeated Georgia State, 7-1, in game one of day two at the Springhill Suites Buckhead Classic. Tech improves to 21-3, while GSU falls to 13-8 and will meet Fordham at 4 p.m. to wrap up the two-day tournament.
Tech's Kate Kuzma opened up the game by hitting a solo homer from the lead off spot, crushing a 2-2 pitch over the left center field fence to give the Yellow Jackets an early 1-0 lead. A Kristine Priebe two-run home run extended the Yellow Jackets lead in the first to 3-0.
A Caitlin Jordan three-run homer in the fourth and a Hope Rush solo shot in the fourth pushed the Tech lead to 7-1.
Lauren Jones broke up the Jesscia Coan no-hitter in the fourth with a solo shot to left field to provide the Panthers with their lone run of the game. Rebecca Roles had the other GSU hit on the day.
On the day, Coan (7-0) pitched a complete-game two hitter, allowing only the solo homer while striking out 10. Picking up the loss for the Panthers was Heather Lowry (2-2) who allowed six runs on five hits while walking four batters in 2.1 innings of work. In relief, Erin Collins allowed one run on three hits in 3.2 innings of service.
Leading the way for Tech was Jordan who had a homer and three RBI. Rush was 2-for-3 with a homer.
