ATLANTA - The Georgia State baseball team revenged last week's loss to Kennesaw State on Wednesday night, earning a 19-9 win over the Owls. Senior Carl Moniz and junior Rob Lind each had four hits and three RBIs to lead the Panthers.

After a tough 0-6 start to the season, the Panthers have won 12 of their last 15 games to improve to 12-9 entering CAA play this weekend. Kennesaw State dropped to 9-14 with the loss.

"The team put together a lot of great things tonight," commented head coach Greg Frady. "We had outstanding starting pitching and the team did not make an error in the field. We put up 19 hits and scored 19 runs. I really feel like so many guys on our team are playing extremely well. It is just special to be a part of right now."

Sophomore Nick Squeglia (2-0) pitched 6.0 innings, throwing a career-high seven strikeouts while allowing just six hits. He gave up four runs, three of which were earned and walked two.

Moniz led the Panther attack, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three driven in. He raised his batting average to .451 on the season.

Lind equaled Moniz, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Lind raised his batting average to .400, giving the Panthers seven batters with at least a .400 batting average a little more than one-third of the way thru the season.

Redshirt-sophomore Joey Wood belted his eighth home run of the year, which is tied for the team lead with junior Ryan Fleming, who also hit his eighth home run of the season.

After allowing two runs in the top of the first, the Panthers scored four runs in each of the first three innings. State added three more in the bottom of the fourth, along with four more in the eighth.

Wood went 2-for-6 at the plate with two runs scored and four RBIs, while Fleming added one hit in two at bats to go along with two walks. Fleming also drove in three runs.

Junior Mark Micowski went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs, raising his batting average to .456 on the season.

Sophomore Brandon Williams added three hits along with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Sophomore Ben Marshall relieved Squeglia and pitched 2.0 innings, allowing just one unearned run.

Sean Fream (0-4) took the loss for the Owls. Fream lasted 1.2 innings, giving up six hits and eight runs, while walking three.
