Seahawks Salvage Series Finale, 5-1

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- UNC Wilmington pitcher Samme Lisowsky (3-8) pitched a complete game allowing only one run (zero earned) on six hits as the Seahawks defeated Georgia State, 5-1, to salvage the series finale. GSU won the weekend series, 2-1.

The Panthers fall to 18-10 (2-1 CAA), while the Seahawks improve to 6-20 (1-2 CAA).

Leading the way for UNCW was Katie Houmard, who drove in a pair of runs. Kelsey Eddinger went 2-for-3 with a RBI. In a losing effort for the Panthers, Danielle Roddy was 2-for-4 with a RBI, while designated player Cassie Boese went 2-for-3. Tiffany Bess and Lauren Jones picked up the only two other hits for GSU. Alana Thomas, pitching in relief of Heather Lowry, went four innings scattering a run and three hits, while walking two.

The Seahawks got on the board first in Sunday's contest, after a Kelsey Eddinger double to right field scored Ashley Shingleton, who reached on a walk.

The Panthers are now 4-7 when trailing after the first inning.

The Panthers came back in the second to tie the game as Danielle Roddy hit a bloop single beside the left field line, scoring Bess.

UNCW answered with a pair of runs in the second after Katie Houmard singled to left center, scoring Morgan Walters and Laura Sykes.

After a pitching change for the Panthers brought in Thomas for Lowry, the Seahawks' Buckworth singled through the right side, scoring Eddinger, to push the UNCW lead to 4-1.

Lowry (2-4) went two innings allowing four runs on seven hits before moving to left field to remain in the lineup as a batter.

The Seahawks picked up an insurance run in the sixth to stretch the lead to 5-1 after Shingleton singled up the middle, scoring Walters, before recording the final three outs to end the contest.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday when they host the Western Carolina Catamounts in a mid-week doubleheader. The games are a makeup from the canceled Georgia State First Pitch Classic games from the season's opening weekend. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and can be viewed via livestats. Georgia State returns to CAA action next weekend when it welcomes the Drexel Dragons to Bob Heck Field. Game one will begin on Friday and 5 p.m. before a doubleheader on Saturday ends the series.
