Starkville, Miss.  - The Georgia State women's tennis team improved to 4-0 on the season by defeating Southeastern Conference foe Mississippi State (0-3), 4-2, Friday at McCarthy Gym. The Panthers won the first four singles matches to earn their fourth straight win.

The match was played indoors, which forced the teams to start with singles play.

Sophomore Tereza Lerova picked up her third win of the season after a three set win at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2. Lerova was able to win the third set after dropping the second set to give GSU a 2-0 lead.

Senior Katerina Gresova fell behind after losing the first set 6-3 at No. 3 singles. But she came back to take the next two sets, 6-3, 6-3, to remain perfect on the season at 4-0.

Freshman Maryna Kozachenko won the clinching match in straight sets, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, at No. 4 singles. She also improved to 4-0 on the season.

With the score 4-0 and the match decided, the final two singles matches were played with an eight-game pro set.

Junior Kir Kemp lost 8-2 and freshman Othilia Lindqvist lost 8-5, making the final score 4-2. The teams elected not to play the doubles matches.

Georgia State will return to action next Saturday to host on East Tennessee State at 10 a.m. at Piedmont Park.
