ATLANTA -- Georgia Tech pitcher Kristen Adkins hurled a two-hit shutout as the Yellow Jackets took down Georgia State, 3-0, on Tuesday at Bob Heck Field.
Adkins (4-2) struck out 10 Panther batters, while walking none. GSU's lone hits came from freshman Jessica Clifton and senior Tiffany Bess.
Tech improves to 8-4, while the Panthers fall to 7-10. GSU returns to action this weekend when it travels to the Buzz Classic in Woodstock, Ga.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first in the second inning. A fielding error by Paige Nowacki allowed the leadoff hitter Hope Rush to reach first. Pinch runner Kelly Delashmit immediately stole second, advancing to third on a throwing error by Maddy Stanton. Later in the inning, Shannon Bear hit a sac fly to bring in Delashmit.
Tech added to its lead in the sixth when Kristine Priebe hit a solo shot over the right field fence that ended starting pitcher McCall Langford's night. The LaGrange, Ga., product's final line saw 5.1 innings of work, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out six batters.
Georgia Tech added one final run in the seventh as Kelsi Weseman singled to right field, scoring Christy Jones to push Tech's lead to 3-0.
The Panthers best scoring threat came in the fourth. A single by Jessica Clifton opened the inning. After Whitney Phillips' sacrifice bunt, Nowacki walked, but GSU could not capitalize from there as an out ended the inning.
