WILMINGTON, NC — With a pair of shutout wins at UNCW Friday afternoon, Georgia State (27-11, 5-3) extends their season-best winning streak to seven games including five consecutive conference wins.
GSU took the first game by a count of 8-0 and followed with a 6-0 win in game two. UNCW falls to 6-31 overall and 1-7 in league play, amidst the Seahawks' current seven game losing streak.
Alana Thomas and McCall Langford both threw complete game shutouts for the Panthers. Thomas extends her streak of scoreless innings to 21 and notches her tenth victory of the campaign.
Both pitchers surrendered only four hits apiece. Langford also struck out six without issuing a walk. The junior's ERA is now lowered to 1.98 overall and only 0.68 in CAA play.
At the plate, the Panthers combined for 19 hits over the doubleheader on their way to scoring 14 runs.
Carrie Williams had a career day, hitting a pair of homers and driving in five runs in the doubleheader. Jessica Clifton and Ashley Christy also provided long-balls in the first game; Christy's was the first of her career.
In the first game, Lauren Coleman went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and two RBI. The freshman's batting average is now up to .310, including a .368 mark in conference games.
The shutouts were GSU's 11th and 12th of the season. The Panthers have held their opponents scoreless in four out of their last five games.
GSU and UNCW finish the three game series Sat., April 7 at 6 p.m. at Boesman Field.
