HARRISONBURG, Va. –The Georgia State volleyball team
suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of conference rival James Madison Saturday
evening.
With the loss, GSU fell to 2-12 and 0-2 in the Colonial
Athletic Association while JMU improved to 8-6 and 1-0 in the conference.
Freshman Dede Bohannon led the Panthers with eight kills on
the night while fellow freshman Andrea' DeLeon led the way in assists with 13.
Junior Emily Averbeck led the Panthers and was just one dig shy of a match-high
with 22.
Meghan Niski led the Dukes and all scorers with 14 kills on
the night while Megan Weichmann posted a match-best 37 assists.
The Dukes jumped out early and held off the Panthers 25-20
in the first set. In the second set, the Panthers could not overcome an early
deficit and fell 25-17.
In the third set, GSU took advantage of several JMU errors
and used a kill by Sydney Hunsley to take an early 7-4 lead. However, the Dukes
were up to the task as they rallied to take the third set 25-21.
The Panthers return to action September 28 as they face
Towson at 7 p.m. in the first match of a two-match CAA road trip. GSU takes on
Delaware September 29 at 7 p.m. to close out the road swing.
