PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. — Seven runs in the fourth inning helped Georgia State earn an 11-3 run-rule victory over Jacksonville State on Tuesday afternoon at the Heck Softball Complex.
The win was Georgia State's ninth in the last 10 games.
The Panthers (15-8) registered 15 hits, including four for extra bases. Brenna Morrissey, Jessica Clifton and Ashley Christy each had three hits for GSU. Morrissey also scored three runs and Paige Nowacki had three RBI.
Jacksonville State (16-11) loaded the bases in the top of the first and managed to score one run on a sacrifice fly to left field. JSU added two more runs in the fifth inning on a home run by Sara Borders.
In the pivotal seven-run inning, GSU got RBI hits from Audrey Mason, Jordan Brown, Morrissey, Callie Alford and Nowacki. The Panthers batted around and sent 13 batters to the plate in the frame.
Nowacki's hit was her ninth home run of the season and the 29th of her career. The senior needs only three more homers to tie the school record of 32. The home run was GSU's 24th of the season in its 23 games.
Kaitlyn Medlam (7-3) earned the win after allowing only one unearned run on three hits in 4.0 innings of work. Katie Worley closed out the final inning of play, allowing two runs on just one hit.
Christy stole two bases in the game, making the outfielder a perfect 12-for-12 in stolen base attempts. Anderson's stolen base was her sixth of the season and gives the Panthers 44 stolen bases in 2013.
Georgia State takes on No. 4/6 Alabama in Tuscaloosa tomorrow at 6:00 ET. The Panthers defeated the eventual national champion Crimson Tide 5-1 last season at Rhodes Field.
