HARRISONBURG, Va. — Georgia State softball dropped the final game of the 2013 regular season by a score of 8-0 to James Madison in five innings at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (36-19, 13-8) were shutout for only the third time all season and were swept in the first time in conference play.
JMU pitcher Jailyn Ford held the GSU offense to just one hit, a fifth-inning single by Brenna Morrissey. Ashley Christy drew a walk and Callie Alford reached on an error to represent the only other Panther base runners in the contest.
Kaitlyn Medlam took the loss for Georgia State after allowing all eight runs on eleven hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Katie Worley recorded the final out in the ballgame out of the bullpen.
James Madison (39-13, 18-3) scored three runs in the first and fifth innings and two more in the third to force the run-rule victory. The Dukes will go on to be the No. 2 seed in the CAA tournament.
Georgia State is ineligible for conference postseason play as the team will be transitioning to the Sun Belt Conference next season.
