Panthers Fall 11-1 at ULM, Drop Series

Monroe, La. -- Georgia State fell 11-1 at ULM Sunday as the Warhawks won the Sun Belt Conference series at Warhawk Field.

With the series win, ULM (22-31, 11-16 Sun Belt) moved one game ahead of the Panthers (24-28, 10-17 Sun Belt) in the league standings. With one weekend to play, GSU stands in the eighth and final position to qualify for the Sun Belt Tournament, but the Panthers are just one-half game ahead of Troy and one game ahead of 10th-place UALR.

ULM scored in every inning, including Trent Lucas' solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning that ended the game, per the Sun Belt's 10-run rule on the final day of any series.

The Panthers managed seven hits off ULM pitchers Alex Dumaine (3-4), who earned his second win of the series, and Chris Hunt, scoring their only run in fourth inning on a double-play groundout.

"Today was ULM's game. We didn't hit enough, we didn't play good enough defense, we didn't pitch well enough, and we didn't run the bases well enough," GSU head coach Greg Frady said. "If you are trying to beat a team on their home field, you have to play the game well, and we didn't play well enough today. It wasn't a lack of effort, and I thought we were ready to play, but we just didn't get it done today.

"This is disappointing, but the season is not over. We've got another series to go, and we'll be ready to play. That's the beautiful thing about baseball; until the final out is made, you always have a chance.
