The team is now 2-0-1 in conference play, in first place with seven points, and moved to 8-1-3 overall, among the best starts in school history.
The Panthers continued their streak of outshooting their opponents, but seven saves from the Red Wolves kept the score even. Arkansas State had just seven shots to Georgia State's 17. GSU had 16 corner kicks to just two by the hosts.
Senior Ashley Nagy led the team in shots with four, one of which was on goal. Nagy now has 33 shots for the season, edging out senior Callie O'Connor for most shots this season by six.
GSU went into the half down a goal, after Arkansas State scored within six minutes of kickoff. Freshman Caitlin Ray tied the game with nine minutes left in regulation, her fifth goal of the season. Ray was assisted by senior Jenna Moore, her third of the season.
Both teams were held to just one shot in overtime, with both coming in the second period.
“Jonesboro is a difficult place to play and for our ladies to overcome adversity and an early goal by Arkansas State was a positive step,” head coach Derek Leader said of the game.
Georgia State will remain on the road and face Little Rock on Sunday at 2 p.m.
