* Georgia State loses five-setter to Georgia Southern on Senior Day.
* The Panthers lost 19-25, 26-24, 24-26, 25-16, 16-14 to fall to 6-18 overall and 2-12 in the Sun Belt.
* Georgia State goes on the road for the final two matches of the 2015 season against UL Lafayette and UL Monroe.
ATLANTA – Celebrating Senior Day by honoring five student-athletes and the team manager, Georgia State played an emotional match against its rivals Georgia Southern, but was defeated 16-14 in the fifth set to lose 3-2 (19-25, 26-24, 24-26, 25-16, 16-14).
Kitan Ajanaku, Deidra Bohannon, Brianna Jones, Natalia Nieto and Gabby Serafin all played their final contest in the Sports Arena Saturday night against the Eagles. Serafin tallied 26 digs while Bohannon led the team with 18 kills and had 16 digs of her own to go along with three blocks, two solo. Nieto had nine digs, an assist and an ace and Ajanaku recorded two blocks and 11 kills.
As the fans said goodbye to five seniors, they caught a glimpse of the future of Georgia State volleyball as freshman Sarah Renner had a season-high 50 assists and junior Kristina Stinson totaled 12 kills, 15 digs and two blocks. Freshman Shae Chapman added nine kills and three blocks fellow freshman Anna Rantala hit .286 with four kills.
With the loss, Georgia State falls to 6-18 overall and 2-12 in the conference. A win tonight against the Eagles would have put the Panthers in solid position for the eighth and final spot at the Sun Belt Championships. However, the results eliminates GSU from postseason contention.
Georgia State travels to Louisiana next weekend to close out the 2015 regular season. GSU faces UL Lafayette Friday at 7:30 p.m. and UL Monroe Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
