Mobile, Ala. -- Georgia State had its seven-game winning streak snapped in an 8-0 loss at South Alabama Friday night at Stanky Field, the Panthers' first road loss in Sun Belt Conference play.
Ryan Blanton broke up a no-hit bid by the Jaguars' Kevin Hill with a bloop single to center field with no outs in the top of the ninth. Hill, a senior right-hander, finished with a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts and four walks to run his record to 7-0 on the season.
Georgia State (26-16 overall) remains in first place in the Sun Belt at 13-4, ahead of Georgia Southern (16-7) and third-place South Alabama, which improved to 27-16, 12-7 Sun Belt.
The Panthers suffered their first shutout loss of the season, failing to score for the first time in 86 games.
"I'm disappointed and our team is disappointed because we didn't play well in any phase, but we will bounce back tomorrow," head coach Greg Frady said. "You have to hand it to their pitcher, Kevin Hill, who was outstanding tonight."
Freshman shortstop Justin Jones had his 12-game hitting streak snapped.
GSU starting pitcher Nathan Bates (4-1) took his first loss of the season. He struck out six in 3.2 innings but allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits.
