ATLANTA – Georgia State's softball team was defeated Sunday afternoon by Texas State 4-1 to snap a seven-game winning streak. The Panthers (18-13, 4-2 SBC) still took the series from the Bobcats (21-9, 2-4 SBC) after the doubleheader sweep on Saturday.
The Panthers fell behind in the first inning as the Bobcat offense scored three of its four runs in the opening frame. Texas State used two double and a pair of singles to take the early 3-0 advantage. Texas State scored again in the third inning with a solo home run by Kendall Wiley, her fourth of the season.
Freshman Amanda Chance came on to pitch for GSU in the third and went five innings, allowing no runs on just three hits. Georgia State got on the board in the sixth inning that began with an Ivie Drake leadoff single. Skalski then beat out an infield single to the pitcher to put two on with no outs. Taylor Anderson earned an RBI on a groundout that brought Drake home from third to make it a 4-1 game. That would be all for GSU, however, as the Bobcats got out of the jam.
The Panthers host No. 3 Auburn Wednesday at 5 p.m. Admission to the Bob Heck Softball Complex is FREE.
