PANTHERSVILLE – Senior Katie Worley and freshman Amanda Chance held Alabama State to just three hits Tuesday in Georgia State's 6-0 victory over the Hornets at the Bob Heck Softball Complex. Freshman Reagan Morgan led the offense with three hits and two RBI.
GSU scored all six of its runs in just two innings. Mallory Koepke put the Panthers on the board with an RBI-single to center field in the second inning. Morgan added another run with a line drive up the middle that scored Morgan Brown.
That lead would be enough the starter Katie Worley. The senior struckout the side in the first inning and limited the Hornets to only one hit over five innings. Worley improves to 9-7 on the season. Over 37.1 innings at the Heck Softball Complex this season, Worley boasts a 0.94 ERA and 48 strikeouts.
The GSU offense exploded for four runs in the fourth inning to jump ahead 6-0. Morgan hit another single that brought home Taylor Bradley. The base knock earned Morgan her 11th multi-hit game and the sixth time this season she's tallied two or more RBI. Mandy Blackwell picked up two RBI on a single to right field and Taylor Anderson capped off the inning with yet another RBI-single. Six of the Panthers' 11 hits on the day came in the fourth inning.
Chance entered the circle to start the top of the sixth and closed the book on the Hornets, completing the shutout.
Georgia State has a quick turnaround and is back in action Wednesday with a 5 p.m. first pitch at Chattanooga. Wednesday's road game will be shown on American Sports Network.
