MONROE, La. – Despite collecting seven hits, Georgia State's softball team could not manufacture a run and lost 2-0 at UL Monroe Saturday night in the series-opener. The Panthers fall to 26-25 on the season and 9-10 in Sun Belt play.

Senior Katie Worley threw all six innings for the Panthers and only allowed five hits and two earned runs, but that two-run cushion would be enough for ULM starter Melanie Coyne. Coyne also went the distance and struck out four Panther hitters.

The big hits for the Warhawks came in the second and fourth innings. Coyne helped herself out with an RBI-double in the second to score the first run of the game. An RBI-single in the fourth by Vanessa Garcia gave ULM the two-run lead.

GSU stranded nine runners in the game and had a baserunner reach third base in three of the seven frames. Brenna Skalski and Mandy Blackwell each tallied two hits on the day. Remington Hasty and Taylor Bradley both reached base on singles and Taylor Anderson tripled for the seventh time in her career.

The series concludes Sunday with a doubleheader. The first game is slated for a noon ET start.
