SAN MARCOS, Texas- Concluding its first conference road trip of the year, the Georgia State women's soccer team fell to Texas State 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers fell to 3-3-3 (0-1-1 Sun Belt), while the Bobcats improved to 5-4-1 (2-0-0 Sun Belt).
Georgia State took the lead early, with sophomore Caitlin Ray scoring in the 13th minute of play off an assist from Rebecca Copeland. Texas State even the score at 1-1 when Clarissa Leon scored a goal with 20 minutes left in the first half.
The Panthers came out of the half looking to again take the lead, but a Bobcats goal from Jordan Kondikoff secured the win for the Bobcats. Kassi Hormuth scored the third goal for Texas State in the 82nd minute of the match.
Redshirt-junior Brie Haynes had another impressive match, making seven saves against the Bobcats. Haynes has 22 saves in the first two matches of Sun Belt play.
“I thought the girls dealt with the travel this weekend well and we played some of our best soccer so far,” said head coach Ed Joyce. “”Credit goes to Texas State for battling all match and being able to convert the chances they took. Now we're looking forward to opening conference play at home next weekend.”
The Panthers will be back on the field to host Sun Belt newcomer Coastal Carolina on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
