SAN MARCOS, Texas - Georgia State (23-11, 8-2 SBC) topped Texas State 5-3 in nine innings Friday behind 15 hits to win their sixth game in a row.
Kinsley Jennings improved to 10-4 on the season with another stellar outing Friday, taking down the Bobcats with just two earned runs and five strikeouts through 8.0 innings of work. Jennings is now 6-1 in her last nine outings for the Panthers.
Georgia State and Texas State were all tied at 3-3 in the top of the ninth when Remington Hasty delivered the game-winning hit, an RBI single that scored Megan Litumbe. Reagan Morgan added another run with an RBI single to give GSU the 5-3 advantage in extras. Hasty and Morgan each finished with two RBI on the day.
It was Litumbe that provided the game-tying single in the fifth, bring home Kirsten McMonigle to bring the score even at 3-3. The redshirt junior now has seven RBI in her last five games.
Entering the game, Texas State was the highest ranked Sun Belt team with an RPI of 34. The win brings Georgia State's win streak to six and improves its Sun Belt record to 8-2. The Panthers are now 4-2 on the year in extra-inning contests.
Game 2 of the series has been moved from 2:15 ET on Saturday to 1:30 ET due to weather concerns. The two sides will attempt to play the third and final game of the series at the conclusion of Game 2 tomorrow, weather permitting.
