KENNESAW, Ga. – Georgia State women's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Kennesaw State Sunday night at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The Owls notched the only goal of the match in the 82nd minute off a header.

Georgia State fell to 0-2 on the year while Kennesaw State improved to 2-0. Despite the Panthers' 0-2 start, head coach Ed Joyce believes there were lots of positives to take away from the first weekend of the season.

“Overall, I thought the girls worked hard and unfortunately probably didn't get the result they deserved today,” Joyce said. “With so many young kids playing I think the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. We got kids lots of experience, and we move into the weekend with kids having a much better idea of what college soccer is.”

The Panthers' Hannah Davis launched the first shot of the match on Sunday, a header that flew just over the crossbar. GSU stayed aggressive in the first half, but only produced two total shots and one shot on goal after 45 minutes of play.

KSU upped the tempo in the second half, going on a quick flurry of four shots within the span of a minute, but Georgia State keeper Lydia Fraga made some great saves the keep the score even. The Owls continued to press and later scored the only goal of the night in the 82nd minute.

Georgia State finished the evening with 10 total shots and three on goal while Kennesaw State fired 14 total shots and five on goal. Davis, Jocelyn Jones and Caitlin Ray all fired a team-high two shots on Sunday.

“I think we learned a lot about ourselves today and on Friday,” Joyce said. “We learned that we can battle when games get a little bit more physical which has been a big problem for us in the past. The girls worked really hard today, we just got beat by a really good goal from Kennesaw.”

The Panthers return to action at 7 p.m. Friday for a home match against Mercer. Live stats will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com.
