GSU Set To Face Troy And South Alabama For The Second Time This Season

GSU looks to improve conference record during this weekend's road trip

ATLANTA, GA.- The Georgia State volleyball team takes the road to face the Sun Belt's Alabama schools for the second time this season. The Panthers will face Troy Friday evening before battling South Alabama on Saturday night.

GSU will look to improve on a 3-5 conference record, coming off a win to ULM and a loss to Louisiana last weekend. Both Troy and South Alabama are coming off trips to the Lone Star State. Both squads recorded losses to Texas State and both teams defeated UT Arlington. South Alabama is undefeated in home matches this season.

Leah Wilcox has led the way for the Georgia State offense over the last two weekends, notching three consecutive double-digit kill performances. Senior Sydney Stroud continues to lead the team in kills for the season with 159.

The Panthers have produced stellar defense. At the net Georgia State leads the Sun Belt in blocking, averaging 2.16 blocks per set. The blocking core is led by Meisheia Griffin, who has posted 81 blocks this season, best for second in the conference. GSU ranks in the top five in the Sun Belt in digs per set with 15.29.

Earlier this season GSU split decisions with the schools from the Yellowhammer State. Georgia State outlasted South Alabama in a thrilling five-setter. The next day the Panthers fell to Troy in four. In the meeting with Troy, Griffin recorded a standout performance, notching 7 of the team's 14 blocks and leading the offense with 11 kills.

"Seeing an opponent for the second time allows you to make adjustments and see your growth as a team over the last couple of weeks," said head coach Sally Polhamus

Live stats will be available for both matches. The match against Troy will be showed on ESPN+.
