MOBILE, AL.- Georgia State dropped an evening contest to South Alabama on Saturday 3-0. The Jaguars remains unbeaten through 13 matches at Jag Gym this season.
Meisheia Griffin and Sydney Stroud dominated at the net, leading the way as the Panthers tacked on 13 blocks in the effort.
Junior Leah Wilcox led the Georgia State offense for the fifth consecutive game, posting nine kills.Jordan Shoemaker and Kampbell Hehr each dished out double-digit assists with 18 and 10 respectively.
Wilcox would come out strong, posting back-to-back kills to start of the match. She would tack on four more in the frame. The teams would tie the game six times, but at 10-10 South Alabama would capitalize on a GSU serving error with a 5-1 scoring run. Two late aces by South Alabama would put the frame out of Georgia State's reach. The Jaguars took the set 25-17.
Georgia State would record seven blocks as they jumped to an 11-3 lead in the second. Another South Alabama ace would begin to chip away at the State lead. Just like in the first, the two squads would see six ties in this frame. With the game knotted at 25, South Alabama would close the set behind two consecutive kills.
South Alabama held a lead throughout most of the final frame. A few errors by the Jaguars would put the Panthers in striking distance, but South Alabama would ultimately take the frame 25-23.
