Georgia State Sweeps Arkansas State on the Road

The Panthers Snap Four-Game Losing Streak

Box Score Jonesboro, Ark. – Georgia State swept Arkansas State in Saturday evening's contest. This marks the second sweep by the Panthers this season and elevates the team to 4-8 in Sun Belt action. 

The Georgia State offense recorded a .248 hitting percentage compared to Arkansas State's .155 in the win. The Panthers were able to keep the Red Wolves off balance attacking from both sides of the court. Outside Leah Wilcox posted 12 kills, while right side Sydney Stroud added 11. Jordan Shoemaker led the team with 16 assists while Kampbell Hehr dished out 13.

Defensively, the Georgia State middles posted another big night at the net.Madelyn Ott led the team with four blocks and Meisheia Griffin, the Sun Belt blocking leader, added three blocks during the victory.

Georgia State and Arkansas State would play closely throughout the beginning of the match. The Panthers would capitalize on an Arkansas State service error to go on a 6-0 scoring run. A kill by Ott would clinch the 25-21 first set victory.

The squads would face eight ties in the beginning of the second frame. A block by Griffin gave Georgia State momentum and the lead. Arkansas State would continue to hang with the Panthers, but a crucial kill by Ott late in the frame would extend the Georgia State lead. The Panthers would eventually take the second 25-19.

The Red Wolves continued to fight in the final frame, forcing nine ties. A duo of 3-0 runs by the Panthers would keep the set out of Arkansas State's grasp. A kill by Stroud would clinch the final frame 25-21 and secured the Georgia State victory.

Georgia State will look to add to the win column again next weekend as the Panthers return to GSU Sports Arena. The team will face Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina for the second time this year.
