GSU set to Take on Top-Seed South Alabama in SBC Tournament Semifinals

Panthers and Jaguars kick off at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN+

FOLEY, Ala. – Two of the hottest teams in the Sun Belt Conference will square off in the second semifinal match of the SBC Tournament, as No. 5 Georgia State (on a five-match win streak) takes on No. 1 South Alabama (on a six-match win streak) 8 p.m. ET Friday at the Foley Sports Complex.

GSU has reached the semifinals in each of its last three appearances in the SBC Tournament (2015, 2018, 2019) and will look to punch its ticket to the Sun Belt Championship for the first time since 2015 with a win over the Jaguars on Friday.

SCOUTING SOUTH ALABAMA
- South Alabama defeated No. 8 Georgia Southern 2-0 in Wednesday's opening round. The Jaguars are 15-0-3 in SBC Tournament games since 2013 and will look to capture their sixth Sun Belt title this weekend.
- USA is led by 2019 Sun Belt Player of the Year Briana Morris, who leads the league in points (32) and goals (15). Her 15 goals rank among the top 10 in all of Division I women's soccer.
- The Jaguars average 18.8 shots per game and 2.32 goals per game, both the highest marks in the conference.
- Friday will be the 15th all-time meeting between GSU and South Alabama. The Jaguars own a 11-2-1 record in the series and have won nine straight against Georgia State.

LAST TIME OUT
- A goal in the 79th minute from Jimena Cabrero lifted Georgia State to a 1-0 victory over Coastal Carolina in Wednesday night's opening round of the SBC Tournament, moving the Panthers into the semifinals for the second consecutive year.
- The goal was Cabrero's sixth of the season, tying her for the sixth-most goals among all players in the league.
- Several different Panthers tied or set career highs on Wednesday, including Cabrero, who tied her career high in shots (5) and shots on goal (4), and Brooke Shank, who tied her career high in total shots (7).
- Liz Fogarty set career highs in shots (3) and shots on goal (2) and goalkeeper Kendra Clarke set a career high in total saves (7).
- The GSU back line continued its strong play, holding the Chanticleers -- who entered Wednesday averaging 15.1 shots per game against conference opponents, the second-highest mark in the league -- to just eight shot attempts. The Panthers have also recorded four clean sheets in their last five contests.

QUICK KICKS
- Jimena Cabrero leads GSU with six goals and two assists for 14 total points. Five of her goals are game-winners, tied for the most among all players in the Sun Belt.
- Brooke Shank is tied for first among all players in the Sun Belt with three game-winning goals against conference opponents. She also ranks seventh in the league with 2.24 shots per game.
- Georgia State has recorded eight shutouts this season, tied for the third-most in the Sun Belt. During the team's five-match win streak, GSU has notched four clean sheets and has outscored opponents 8-1.

The SBC Tournament semifinals begin 5 p.m. ET Friday with No. 3 Arkansas State taking on No. 7 Louisiana before the No. 5 Panthers square off against No. 1 South Alabama at 8 p.m. ET.
