ATLANTA - Georgia State lost 6-5 in eight innings Saturday in the second game of the series against Appalachian State at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.
The Panthers got a great outing from starting pitcher Emily Soles. Soles allowed just one run through the first six innings before the Mountaineers broke through in the top of the seventh.
Georgia State held a 5-1 lead entering the final inning with App State struck for four runs on four hits to tie the game. GSU threatened with bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't push the winning run across.
App State took the lead in the top of the eighth and held on to get the win and even the series at 1-1. Game 3 of the series will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
Reagan Morgan had a 3-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Kristin Hawkins, Caitlin Ray, Alyssa Brumelow and Gabby Benson each had two hits in the game.
Georgia State scored a run in each of the first four innings before App State turned to Taylor Nichols. Nichols tossed 4.2 scoreless innings allowing the Mountaineers to climb back into the contest.
