ATLANTA - Georgia State rallied with a four-run sixth inning to tie the game against Georgia Tech Wednesday, but the Yellow Jackets used a grand slam in the top of the seventh to win 12-6.
The Panthers trailed the Yellow Jackets 5-1 entering the bottom of the sixth. After two quick outs, GSU mounted a four-run rally, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of freshman Jess Neadow. Following a bases-loaded walk issued to Caitlin Ray, a wild pitch allowed Neadow to score and even the game at 5-5.
Georgia Tech responded with seven runs on two hits in the top of the seventh. The Yellow Jackets got a grand slam and a three-run homer in the frame.
GSU put a run on the board in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't overcome the GT advantage.
Alyssa Brumelow was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for GSU and Kristin Hawkins was 2-for-4 with a home run.
Next up for Georgia State is a three-game series at Troy beginning Friday.
