Panthers Rout Rival Louisiana 90-52

Box Score ATLANTA-Georgia State routed an injury-depleted Louisiana team 90-52 on Thursday night at the GSU Sports Arena as the Panthers led from the opening tip.

Georgia State (11-6, 4-2 Sun Belt) extended its home-court winning streak to 13 games dating back to last year as redshirt-junior Corey Allen scored a team-high 24 points going 8-of-11 from the floor with four 3-pointers. The Panthers have won 21 of their last 22 games in the GSU Sports Arena.

Sophomore Nelson Phillips came off the bench to score 17 points going 7-of-11 from the floor as the Panthers shot a season-best 54.2 percent from the floor and 52.4 percent from 3-point range.

Louisiana (7-10, 2-4 Sun Belt) which was playing with just seven healthy scholarship players, shot just 28.8 percent from the floor and was 6-of-22 from 3-point range while turning the ball over 22 times.

The Ragin' Cajuns were led by Jalen Johnson who scored 12 points while Cedric Russell and Calvin Temple each scored nine.

"Honestly, it feels good to be home after a long road trip and to come away with a good win," head coach Rob Lanier said. "This recent road trip was a grind and a humbling trip. To come home and put together a solid performance is rewarding. We got a bunch of guys a lot of minutes and that will be helpful moving forward."

As Louisiana made just one of its first 18 field goals, Georgia State took an early 25-2 lead just over 10 minutes into the game.

Following a steal and fast break lay-up from Allen, the Panthers pushed the lead over 30 for the first time at 38-7 with 3:07 to play in the half.

Georgia State went into the locker room leading 47-19 after shooting 60.0 percent from the floor including 8-of-14 from 3-point range. The Panthers dished out 15 assists on 18 made first half field goals.

On the other end, Louisiana shot just 5-of-31 including 2-of-10 from 3-point range after 20 minutes.

Georgia State scored the first six points of the second half causing Louisiana head coach Bob Marlin to call the team's third timeout with the Panthers ahead 53-19.

A 3-pointer by Wilson pushed Georgia State's lead over 40 (71-30) for the first time with 10:25 to play.

The Ragin' Cajuns followed with a 7-0 run to cut Georgia State's lead to 71-37 with 6:57 to remaining but could get no closer than 34 points as the Panthers immediately responded with a 9-0 run.

Junior Kane Williams added 13 points and eight assists, while redshirt-junior Chris Clerkley finished with a career-high eight points. Sophomore Kavonte Ivery added eight points while senior Damon Wilson finished with nine points and five rebounds.
