ATLANTA-- Coastal Carolina defeated Georgia State at the GSU Sports Arena. This marked the third and final regular season meeting between the conference opponents.Â
Senior Jordan Shoemaker dished out 26 assists in the effort. The Georgia State offense was led by Texas native Erin Wyatt with eight kills.Â
Georgia State came out swinging, seeing early kills from impact freshmen Clara Bednarek and Erin Wyatt. GSU struggled to slow down the Sun Belt Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Anett Nemeth, who registered the final two kills for Coastal Carolina en route to a 25-18 first frame victory.Â
The Panthers took an early lead in the second set, propelled by Jordan Shoemaker's variety of assists across the front row. Georgia State's offensive production pushed Coastal Carolina out of system. Despite holding a seven point lead, the Chanticleers adjusted to the aggressive Panthers. Ultimately, Coastal Carolina extended their match lead by edging out the Panthers 26-24.Â
The Chanticleers commanded much of the third frame, but the Panthers were not ready to give up easily. Georgia State survived four match points before falling 25-23.Â
Next, the Panthers will travel to Appalachian State for a three-game series against the Mountaineers. Action begins Friday, October 23 at 11:00 a.m. Â
