Seven in Double Figures as Panthers Cruise to 122-57 Victory

Box Score ATLANTA-Georgia State tied a school-record with seven players in double figures and the Panthers cruised to a 122-57 win over Carver College on Friday afternoon at the GSU Sports Arena.

Freshman Evan Johnson led the Panthers with a career-high 20 points, while junior Justin Roberts recorded his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding six assists.

Georgia State (5-1) continued its best start in 20 years while scoring over the century mark for the third time in the first six games of the year. Carver fell to 0-12 against NCAA D1 competition this year.

The Panthers 122 points were just one shy of the school-record 123 set earlier this year in a four-overtime win at Georgia Tech. The 65-point margin of victory was the second largest in school history, while Georgia State set school-records with 51 made field goals and 34 assists.

Coming off a 20-rebound double-double on Wednesday, redshirt-junior Eliel Nsosome just missed a second-straight double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds in just 20 minutes of action.

Freshman Kaleb Scott came off the bench to score a career-high 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while fellow freshman Collin Moore scored a career-high 13 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out five assists.

Senior Kane Williams chipped in 12 points and five assists, while redshirt-sophomore JoJo Toppin also finished in double figures with 10 points. It had been 17 years since seven Panthers last finished in double figures.

Georgia State scored 61 points in each half, tied for the eighth-most points scored in a half in program history.

Carver was led by Antwon Ferrell off the bench who scored 19 points. The Cougars finished the game with more turnovers (23) than made field goals (22) while playing their fourth game this week.

Georgia State quickly got out to a 7-0 lead forcing Carver to call a time-out less than two minutes into the game. On a lay-up by Toppin, the Panthers led by double figures just five minutes into the game and after an 8-0 run, pushed the lead to 28-12 with just over 10 minutes remaining.

The Panthers knocked down 10 of their last 11 shots to end the first half with a 61-26 lead, including three in double figures.

Georgia State opened the second half on an 11-0 run and reached the century mark on a jumper by Johnson with 7:38 to play.
