Allen, Roberts Score 20 Each, Panthers Top College of Charleston 72-55

Panthers off to 6-1 start, third-best start in program history

Box Score ATLANTA-Senior Corey Allen and junior Justin Roberts each scored 20 points as Georgia State shot nearly 60.0 percent from the floor to top the College of Charleston 72-55 on Monday night at the GSU Sports Arena.

Georgia State (6-1) continued its best start in 20 years after moving up to No. 4 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll earlier in the day. Only two times have the Panthers started a season better than 6-1 with a pair of 7-0 starts in 2000-01 and 1975-76.

Roberts went 7-of-10 from the floor including three 3-pointers, six assists, and three rebounds, while Allen was 7-of-9, including 6-of-7 from 3-point range with six boards. The Panthers shot 58.3 percent from the floor after entering the game shooting 50.0 percent for the season. Georgia also went 11-of-21 from beyond the arc.

Redshirt-junior Eliel Nsoseme collected his second double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers who wrapped up non-conference play on Monday.

The Panthers snapped College of Charleston's (2-5) 12-game winning streak in the series while holding the Cougars to 35.4 percent shooting.
Payton Willis led the College of Charleston with 15 points, while Brenden Tucker added 11 points.

With the scored tied at 11 early in the game, Georgia State used a 9-2 run capped by a jumper from Nsoseme to take a 20-13 lead with 10:52 to play.

Minutes later, a 10-0 run that included back-to-back 3-pointers from Roberts and a 3-pointer by Allen gave the Panthers a 30-16 lead with just under eight minutes remaining in the half.

The Panthers went into the locker room leading 43-28 after a walk-off 3-pointer by Allen. Georgia State shot 15-of-23 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, including 8-of-15 from 3-point range, missing just one 2-point basket.

The Cougars scored 13 of the first 19 points in the second half to finally cut Georgia State's lead to single digits at 49-41, but another 3-pointer by Roberts immediately put the Panthers back up by double figures.

After Keegan Harvey scored five-straight Cougar points to cut Georgia State's lead to just five, the Panthers responded with an 8-0 run to lead 60-47 with 7:52 to play. The Cougars would never cut the deficit to single digits again.

Senior Kane Williams dished out a team-high seven assists, while freshman Collin Moore came off the bench to score six points.

Game Highlights
• Georgia State snapped the College of Charleston's 12-game winning streak in the series, but still trails the all-time series 12-5. The two schools were former TAAC/ASUN foes.
• Georgia State has already scored 100 or more points in three games this year, matching the school record for times going over the century mark in a season (1988-89 and 1991-92).
• Kane Williams, an All-Sun Belt Preseason First Team member, was held to just three points points and now has 1,048 career points, 11 shy of Jim Jacobs for 19th on GSU's all-time list.
• Since returning to the Sun Belt in 2013-14, Georgia State has finished in the top two of the final regular season conference standings five times in seven seasons.
• During that same time, GSU has won more games (159) than any other NCAA Division I team in Georgia.

Georgia State will take a break for the holiday before opening Sun Belt Conference play with a pair of games at Coastal Carolina starting on Jan. 1, in Conway, S.C.
