School-Record 13 3-Pointers Leads Panthers to Win

Four Panthers scored double figures in the 78-59 win.

ATLANTA -- Georgia State drilled a school-record 13 3-pointers en route to a 78-59 win over Furman Sunday at the GSU Sports Arena.

Kam Dziak went 5-for-8 from deep to lead the Panthers with 17 points, a new career-high for the sophomore from Amherst, Ohio. Dziak was one of four Panthers to finish in double figures, joined by Tehya Lyons with 14, Elexus Bell with 10, and Moriah Taylor with 10.

"We don't want just a one-person show. We want to be able to spread the wealth," head coach Gene Hill said. "To be able to do that today was big for us because it makes us tougher to guard."

Over the last two games, the Panthers have made 25 3-pointers. The team tied the school record in Wednesday's win at Tennessee State before breaking it Sunday against Furman.

The Panthers were on fire from tipoff, hitting eight 3-pointers in the first half while holding the Paladins to just eight field goals. GSU out-scored Furman 26-9 in the 2nd Quarter to lead 42-19 at halftime.

Furman fought back in the second half but Dziak hit three 3-pointers in the final period to keep GSU in front.

GSU's defense held Furman to 32% shooting for the game and Furman managed only three points off fast-break opportunities.

"We know we have some players that can score but if we want to win we have to do it on the defensive end. We want to make people score tough, contested shots and I thought we did a good job of that," Hill said.

Georgia State improves to 2-1 on the young season and hosts Life next Sunday at 2 p.m. at the GSU Sports Arena.
