ATLANTA- After falling in three matches to Troy on the road, Georgia State returns to Atlanta to battle Georgia Southern in the first of two pairs of matches against the in-state rival during 2020. 

SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE

> Last weekend's action at Troy marked the first Sun Belt competition of the 2020 season for the Panthers. 

> Leah Wilcox spearheaded the offense with 30 kills over the three contests. 

> The Panthers found success securing the net against the Trojans, accumulating 30 blocks over ten sets of action.

> Meisheia Griffin climbed to No. 5 in all-time block assists in program history with 294. 

> Two Panthers, Ryan Spicer-Gordon and Ava Vlkovic, are ranked in the Sun Belt top-10 in service aces per set. 

> Clara Bednarek made her debut in a GSU uniform over the weekend. 

SCOUTING GEORGIA SOUTHERN 

> Georgia Southern finished the 2019 season with a 7-20 record, defeating two Sun Belt opponents (Arkansas State and Troy). 

> The Eagles return 12 letterwinners to this year's squad, including senior Landon Jones, who anchored the defense with 450 digs last season. 

> Georgia Southern was supposed to open play last weekend against Appalachian State, but the matches were postponed. Thursday will serve as Georgia Southern's 2020 season opener. 

> After this week's duo of matches, the Panthers and Eagles will battle in an additional pair of contests in Statesboro at the end of the month. 

> Chad Willis is in his second year as head coach. 

THE MATCH

> Thursday will mark the 33rd all-time meeting between GSU and Georgia Southern. Georgia State boasts a 20-12 record in the series. 

> The Panthers have won five out of the last six meetings against the Eagles. 

> Fans will be permitted in the GSU Sports Arena during the 2020 season. Masks are required while in the arena at all times.

> Concessions will not be served during the match.
