ATLANTA - Georgia State volleyball will look to earn it's first conference win of the 2021 campaign as it travels to the state of Alabama for a two match road swing against South Alabama and Troy.
The Panthers will look to bounce back after dropping four consecutive five-set matches the past two weekends. Â
Both matches this weekend will be streamed live on ESPN+.Â
PANTHER QUICK HITS
- Georgia State ranks third in the Sun Belt in total blocks with 151.5.
- Meisheia Griffin became the all-time block assists career leader at GSU last Thursday. The star super senior is also fourth on the all-time total blocks list.
- Erin Wyatt has been effective both offensively and defensively for the Panthers as she ranks second on the team in kills (143), second in digs (160) and third in total blocks (32).
- Ava Vlkovic has held down the Panther back row this season as she has 228 digs on the year.
LAST TIME OUT
- Georgia State dropped consecutive matches to Georgia Southern last week as the two teams played a home-and-home series.
- Both matches were tightly contested, but Georgia Southern came out victorious in both contests, 3-2. The losses marked Georgia State's third and fourth consecutive fifth set losses.
- During the first match of the home-and-home, Griffin tallied eight block assists to break the GSU all-time career block assists record (401).
- In the second match of the series, the Panthers were led by freshman Evoni Lemons who notched her first career double-double with 19 kills and 10 digs. The Alpharetta, Ga., native also hit .349 for the match.
- Georgia State also dropped consecutive five-set thrillers the previous weekend as it hosted App State and Coastal Carolina.
THE MATCHUPSÂ
- Georgia State will face South Alabama for the 21st time in program history Friday. The Panthers own a 8-12 mark all-time against the Jaguars. The two teams squared off three times last season with the Panthers winning each of the contests.
- The Panthers will also face Troy this weekend, marking the 37th time that the teams have faced off. Georgia State owns a 17-19 record against the Trojans. Troy has won the past six matchups, including three matches a season ago.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
- South Alabama enters the weekend 12-6 and 5-1 in the Sun Belt. The Jaguars fell to Coastal Carolina, 1-3, on Sunday. The loss snapped South Alabama's five match win streak.         Â
- As a team, South Alabama ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference in opponent hitting percentage (.153). Kennedy Wallace leads the Sun Belt in hitting percentage (.385).Â
SCOUTING THE TROJANS
- Troy owns a 10-7 record, including a 3-3 mark in Sun Belt play. The Trojans defeated App State and fell to Coastal Carolina last weekend to go 1-1 on their road trip.Â
- Amara Anderson became the fourth Trojan in program history to surpass 4,000 assists against Coastal Carolina.Â
NEXT UP
After facing South Alabama and Troy this weekend, the Panthers will return to Atlanta for a four-match homestand. The Panthers will face Arkansas State (Oct. 22) and Little Rock (Oct. 23), before facing UT Arlington (Oct. 29) and Texas State (Oct. 30). Â
